Charlie Cosgriff - 100 Games

10 Apr 2021 by Luke Leviston

Charlie “Chugga” Cosgriff this week brings up his 100th game at the Monash Blues. Chugga started his football with Monash in the under 19’s, quickly gaining a reputation for being a hard tackler and enjoying getting into a contest. Chugga was quickly plucked into the Senior team by then coach Hayden Stanton, immediately making an impact and holding his own.

Chugga has been a rover, back pocket, centre half back, half forward and even a ruckman in the Seniors at Monash over his career. You could say he’s very versatile, or that he has mastered none of them, either way, he’s got a wealth of experience. Some of Chuggas best games have come in finals, playing a huge role in the classic finals loss to St. Bernards at Box Hill, as well as shouldering ruck duties in a narrow finals loss to a then Mark Passador coached Scotch. All these feats made more remarkable by the fact Chugga cannot see straight and is often unsure who has the ball.

Off field, Chugga has been a leader of the social scene at Monash, is a VIP at the Swan and boasts both a best on ground and worst on ground at footy trip (in the same year).

Congratulations Chugga and all the best this week and for the rest of your Monash career.
